ATTENTION: It is recommended to read Chapters I-X first to understand the map of the soul's journey, the concept of light, the method, the stages of wushul, the obstacles, the role of the Prophet & Az-Zahra, the essence of Al-Mahdiyyin, the practice of sholawat, the creed of tawhid, and the process of tazkiyah before delving into this final chapter on the stations of guidance.
"Guidance is not about how hard you seek, but how purely you wait. Nurul Muttashil does not create new light; it only reconnects the cable that you once cut with your own ego. When that connection is restored, you will realize: Allah was never far; it was you who was busy turning off the switch within yourself."
A. Introduction: The Divine Function in Spiritual Connection
This chapter opens not as a codification of terms, but as an exposition of spiritual function. Nurul Muttashil is not positioned as a new path, let alone a new figure, but as one of the operational attributes (divine function) in connecting the human soul with the Light of Allah.
It is the singular connecting mechanism (al-wasil al-ahad) that works directly under Allah's will, without human keys and without the switches of creation.
Essential Definition
Nurul Muttashil is the connecting light that organizes every part of the human self to be under Divine control with precision. This mechanism ensures:
- The body is moved by the intellect,
- The intellect is directed by the nafs (soul),
- The nafs submits completely to the spirit (ruh),
- And the spirit is connected to the Light of Allah through Nur Muhammad, through the layered frequencies of Wahidiyyah, Wahdah, to Wahdaniyyah.
All movement to "ascend" towards the Realm of Light or "descend" bringing mercy to the earth, wrapped in Divine tajalli, occurs entirely through the circuit of Nurul Muttashil as one of the primary attributes and functions of Nur Muhammad ﷺ.
❖ ❖ ❖
B. Foundation of Creed: Nur Muhammad as the Connected Light
Nurul Muttashil is rooted in Nur Muhammad ﷺ as the first light created. In the treasury of Ahlus Sunnah tasawwuf, it is understood as the connecting light (nur al-wasil) between al-Haqq and creation.
It penetrates the human spirit not as a separate entity, but as a functional light, ensuring that guidance is not merely an intellectual theory, but a real current that moves the inner structure of the human being.
C. Primary Evidence: Guidance Belongs Absolutely to Allah
"Whoever Allah guides is the [rightly] guided; and whoever He leaves astray, never will you find for him a protecting guide."
Source: Surah Al-Kahfi (18):17
This verse affirms that without the activation of the Nurul Muttashil circuit, help from any created being or external guide will not have any real saving impact. The drawing of the soul is vertical and direct, not horizontal and social.
❖ ❖ ❖
D. Evidence of Light: The Working Structure of Nurul Muttashil
"Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp."
Source: Surah An-Nur (24):35
Nurul Muttashil works following the pattern of this verse:
Mishkat → the prepared structure of the human soul
Misbah → the active transmitter of guidance
This verse is not merely linguistic aesthetics, but a working map of light within the human being.
❖ ❖ ❖
E. The Antenna Metaphor: The Connected Spirit (Ruh Muttashil) as a Frequency Receiver
The human spirit works like a telescopic radio antenna: one pole, yet layered. The longer it is extended, the subtler the frequencies it captures.
These layers of connection are:
- Ruh Muttashil (Connected Spirit): The basic pole in the Realm of Spirit (the binder of body and faith).
- Ruh al-Wasil (Connecting Spirit): Reaches the Realm of Wahidiyyah (tawhid of actions and attributes).
- Ruh al-Quddus (Holy Spirit): Reaches the Realm of Wahdah (purification of ego and sacred trust).
- Ruh ar-Raji'un (Returning Spirit): Reaches the Realm of Wahdaniyyah (total return and homecoming).
This metaphor affirms that guidance is not an instant leap, but an adjustment of the soul's frequency so that it can receive the emanation of Divine light without distortion.

F. The Stations of Guidance (Not Stations of Sainthood!)
Al-Mahdiyy al-Munajja (The Saved Guided One): The soul that begins to awaken; the object pulled from confusion in the Realm of Spirit.
Al-Mahdiyy al-Arif (The Knowing Guided One): The soul that understands the essence of the universe's creation in its relationship with the Creator. Secret knowledge is poured forth in the Realm of Wahidiyyah.
Al-Mahdiyy al-Muqaddas (The Purified Guided One): The soul that is cleansed from ego ambition; living as a pure trust in the Realm of Wahdah.
Al-Mahdiyy al-Muttasilah (The Connected Guided One): The soul that becomes a complete channel of mercy for the universe in the Realm of Wahdaniyyah.
"And is one who was dead and We gave him life and made for him a light by which to walk among the people like one who is in darkness, never to emerge therefrom?"
Source: Surah Al-An'am (6):122

G. Supporting Evidence: Nur Muhammad as the Connected Light
1. The Prophet as an Illuminating Light
"O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And as one who invites to Allah by His permission, and as an illuminating lamp."
Source: Surah Al-Ahzab (33):45-46
The Prophet ﷺ is called sirajan munira — a lamp that shines and illuminates, not passive light, but active functional light that guides.
2. The Coming of Light and Book
"There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book."
Source: Surah Al-Ma'idah (5):15
3. The Clear Proof and Light Sent Down
"O mankind, there has come to you a clear proof from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light."
Source: Surah An-Nisa (4):174
4. Hadith of Jabir: The Origin of Prophetic Light
"O Jabir, indeed Allah created the light of your Prophet from His light before creating anything else."
(This hadith is well-known in tasawwuf literature and is used as the basis for the concept of Nur Muhammad as the first light).
5. The Hadith 'I was a Prophet...'
"I was a Prophet when Adam was still between water and clay."
Source: HR. Tirmidhi and Ahmad
This hadith affirms the pre-existence of the prophetic light before the physical structure.
❖ ❖ ❖
H. Synthesis of Evidence: Nur Muhammad as the Infrastructure of Guidance
From the Qur'an, Hadith, and tasawwuf, it is affirmed that:
- Nur Muhammad ﷺ is a functional light, not a source of divinity.
- Nurul Muttashil is the operational manifestation of this light within the human soul.
- Connection occurs without human intermediary, through the laws of light that Allah Himself has established.
I. Conclusion of the Chapter
Nurul Muttashil is evidence of Allah's sovereignty in guiding His servants. It is active when Allah wills, and silent when Allah closes it. At this point, guidance becomes real, and the human being stops relying on other than Allah.
